Old Roman Cologne

The inhabitants of Cologne are proud of their preservations of Old Roman Cologne, and they do everything in their power to carry on their good work. A new building that is being erected as a residential hall for students has been designed so as not to disturb a huge chunk of Roman wall that had been discovered almost underneath the building. It is now protected by an arch Where the authorities have decided to build a wall, it is also the site of the Old Roman Wall, and so to help
preserve it' they have built in. over and in between the original wall, filling in the Spaces, making a continuous wall. The best example of the old Roman wall can be seen along the Gertrudenstrasse am Neumarkt. No far from there, there are the remains of an old tower which in places has again been rebuilt. The second tower along the wall is at St. Aposteln. This has been very well preserved. and all sorts of interesting small diagrams can be seen around the tower. The decorations and drawings in places have been painted so as to be distinguished better. This tower is famous and is known as
Römerturm Old bits of the wall can be followed right up to the Dom itself. Some of the original wall had been discovered, when a firm was digging down in the process of making an Underground read. The wall will not be destroyed, instead the Underground will be built around the wall. This may prove to be rather expensive but then the wall has to be preserved.
A part of the water System from the Eifel was discovered, this System provided the people with water from quite some distance from Cologne. (Römer-Kanal Römische Wasserleitung.)

Notes
